pTools adds new social media and networking features to CMS software

11th March 2010

Content Management Software (CMS) provider, pTools, today announced the addition of a range of embedded social media and networking features to its software. From within the pTools CMS, social media content can be easily re-distributed to any site anytime in any format on any social network.

A key feature, pTools 'TwitterDocs', allows users to post to Twitter as they publish content through the CMS. There is no need to separately login to Twitter, and the content-related Tweet is controlled and managed within the CMS and its workflows.

In addition to Twitter, customer content is presented on Facebook, LinkedIn, and indexed in live search engine results such as Google & Bing with no pre- or post-publishing tweaking required.

The new features, which will be launched at the Digital Media Conference in Dublin at the end of the month, mean that businesses can now manage multiple online campaigns for different demographics through one content management engine.

Commenting on the development, Lee Annett, customer relationship and business development manager at pTools says: "Content is at the heart of the social networking experience and pTools Content Management Software (CMS) is helping customers get the most from their online content without the need to manually republish content to every 'current' social media site. From within the CMS, content can be pushed out to potentially thousands of online locations and draws visitors back in to the central website.

One recent deployment for Lincolnshire Police allows their content authors to push content to the police force’s website, and incudes Twitter, Facebook and YouTube channel feeds. Lincolnshire Police now share community and crime-related information through these popular social media sites: from up-to-the minute news and traffic alerts to citizen safety messages, and information appeals to incident CCTV footage and more.

The force serve a population of 646,000 spread over one of the largest geographical areas in the UK and has launched an online outreach programme to engage with the local community. The new technology allows it to disseminate information, such as warnings and notices, to thousands of Lincolnshire residents in an instant.

Commenting on the the service, which started in January, Lincolnshire Police Force Website Development Officer Graham Lord said: “We have been pleasantly surprised by the level of take-up of our Facebook, Twitter and YouTube sites, with new ‘fans’ joining and following us daily. Using social media sites helps us engage with, and get our messages out to groups who might not normally visit the Force website.”

IT and Communications staff from Lincolnshire Police Force co-operated with pTools to tailor their requirements. pTools has recently embedded social media and networking features to its software. From within the pTools CMS, social media content can be re-distributed to online social networks.

“Since launching our new website we are also seeing positive reactions to appeals for witnesses and information about crimes, along with significant increases in visitors to our news and recruitment pages. The ability to quickly and regularly update our online content is key to keeping us noticed,” added Mr Lord.

pTools is a leading enterprise web content management software vendor providing high level feature functionality that delivers powerful content management for critical enterprise initiatives.
